Tab Cares History. PDF Print E-mail
When teens are in trouble or they just need someone to talk to, they often turn to their friends for help.  Many times these peers are the first ones to suspect or know:  if a friend is drinking or using drugs, if they are struggling with decisions about having sex, or if they may be contemplating harm of themselves or others.

Based on the fact that teens do talk and listen to other teens, University Medical Center of El Paso Women's Health Centers created the Teen Advisory Board "TAB" in 1990 to offer young people the training to serve as Peer Educators. The goal of the TAB program is to bring a message of responsible decision-making, positive peer pressure and effective communication about healthy adolescent development and human sexuality to El Paso area teenagers. TAB graduates act as bridges between their fellow students, families, helpful organizations, and other health and social service agencies.
